Ombré Cake for Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in this world 🌍…… Especially to my mother in heaven., I’m always thankful that your mother and I really missed you so much .This Ombré Cake is made of sponge cake and vanilla butter cream frosting and decorates with meringue cookie. The Ombré effect makes this cakes looks amazing.


For the sponge cake:

  • 150 grams self raising flour
  • 150 grams caster sugar
  • 150 grams soft unsalted butter
  • 20 ml whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2large eggs
  • Pink food color paste

For the vanilla butter cream:

  • 100 grams unsalted butter
  • 250 grams sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Meringue cookie for decoration


  1. Pre heat the oven at 170 degrees C line, 5″round baking tray and set aside.
  2. Beat the butter until pale soft and creamy then add the sugar and eggs continue beating until combined then add in the flour and vanilla extract to incorporate.
  3. Prepare the four bowl then divide the whole milk into four equals part then the 3 bowl add the pink color paste for the Ombré effect, one bowl no need to add the color.
  4. Then divide the batter into four equals part I prefer to use weighing scale. Then mix to the color paste for the Ombré effect
  5. Bake the sponge for about 18-20 minutes then let it cool completely. Then cut the edges of the cake.
  6. To make vanilla butter cream, using hand mixer whisk the butter until pale soft and creamy then gradually add in the sifted powdered sugar continue whisking until become creamy consistency the add the vanilla and milk. Transfer the buttercream into piping bag with round tip then layer the cake in the cakeboard and pipe the butter cream around.
  7. And decorate the meringue cookie around the cake I make the meringue cookie ahead of time…’s simple right?😊
